How much does a produce subscription cost and how does it work?
For only a $50 annual membership fee, our produce subscribers order "a la carte" from an email-based menu each week, and then are invoiced in aggregate at the end of each calendar month for those products (vegetables, fresh and dried herbs, and cut flowers) ordered during the preceding month.

Subscribers order what they want, when they want it, and in the quantities they want, and all produce and flowers are delivered within 24 hours of harvest.

Do I have to order every week?
What if I go on vacation or travel often on business?

We do not impose a minimum weekly order, nor must you order every week. We've attempted to structure the subscription so as to maximize flexibility as well as to empower the consumer.

How much is this really going to cost?
Can you give me an idea of a typical weekly order?

Our unit prices are based on retail produce price indices that we consult regularly, as well as our variable costs of production (for example, taking into consideration the labor involved to harvest a squash as opposed to a pound of salad greens or baby spinach).

A household can order a substantial amount of produce each week for $20 or $25. A typical weekly order in August is as follows:

Cucumber (1) = $1.50
Eggplant (1) = $3.00
Heirloom tomatoes (2 lb.) = $6.00
Onions (1/2 lb.) = $1.00
Salad mix (1/2 lb.) = $5.00
Snap beans (1 lb.) = $3.00
Summer Squash (2) = $3.00
Sweet Peppers (1/2 lb.) = $2.50

Total = $25.00

How long is the produce season?
The core produce season is 15 weeks long (beginning in early June), plus an 8-week-long pre-season of early-season greens from our greenhouse beginning in April, and some season extension into October, depending on the weather.

How does your Flower Bouquet subscription differ from your Produce subscription?
We grow over 100 varieties of cut flowers, which we arrange into mixed flower bouquets for delivery to our subscribers.

Flower Bouquet subscribers have the option of a weekly, biweekly, or monthly delivery of a small, medium, or large bouquet over a 20-week-long season beginning in mid-May.

The cost of the subscriptions ranges from $50 to $400, depending on the size of bouquet and frequency of delivery, as follows (for small, medium, and large, respectively):

Weekly: $200, $300, $400 (delivery fee = $50)
Biweekly: $100, $150, $200 (delivery fee = $25)
Monthly: $50, $75, $100 (delivery fee = $15)
[6% sales tax applies to all subscriptions]

Please note that the delivery fee is waived for produce subscribers, and for those flower subscribers who pick up their bouquets at one of our established pick-up locations.

Do you offer any meat products or eggs?
We partner with other local farms to make their naturally-raised beef, chicken, pork, and eggs available to our subscribers, also on an "a la carte" basis, for no additional membership fee.

For example, in the 2006 season, we partnered with So'Journey Farm and Toboggan Hill Farm, both located in nearby Greene County.

Where are the weekly pick-up locations?
Subscribers' orders are available at various Pittsburgh-area pick-up locations each week, including Cherry Valley (near Burgettstown), Crafton, McMurray, Mt. Lebanon, and Sewickley, and other locations will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
